A judge who is raising a kid in a same sex marriage tried to overturn the law against gay marriage in Oregon. However, a group that thinks marriage should be defined the union of a woman and a man is fighting it; they asked a federal appeals court on Monday to postpone the proceedings, and allow for the group to intervene in the hearing. Judge Michael McShane will rule today on a lawsuit that was brought on by four gay and lesbian couples who are challenging the ban, which was approved by voters around a decade ago. The ban was approved by 57% of the voters. About 3,000 gay couples were allowed to marry before a judge halted the practice. The Oregon Supreme Court later invalidated the marriages.

Twins Born; As Rare As They Come
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/05/12/newser-born-with-two-faces/8991607/
Born six weeks early, twin girls were born, but with two faces and one body. (See image.) Only 35 births are known to have taken place with the condition called cranial duplication "diprosopus", which means two faces in Greek. The father of the two girls said that they were breathing perfectly on their own and feeding, who were born in Australia on Thursday. Although these two were lucky, most are stillborn. Children with this condition are identified as a "single child," although Howie (the father) said that they still refer to them as twins.

Acrobats Die. Almost
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/usanow/2014/05/04/circus-providence-injured/8693615/
In Providence on Sunday there were at least nine high-wire circus performers that were injured. The metal frame that the performers were hanging on broke loose from the metal truss. Eight women fell from twenty five to forty feet and landed on a performer that was on the ground. The show was cancelled, and the show scheduled for three pm was also cancelled. "The safety of our performers is the No. 1 priority," said Payne, a spokesperson for the circus act. He also said "something went very wrong with the apparatus." Obviously. Most of the 3,900 people present for the mishap at the show were children. Open the link to see the video.

Florida
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/04/30/florida-floods-panhandle-weather-storms/8501961/
Early Wednesday Florida and south Alabama were hit by torrential rain and extreme flooding. Major destruction and even death have come from the monstrous storms. Because officers made people such down Interstate 10, many people were either left to be stranded in their cars, or had to walk to safety leaving their cars behind. The eastern part of the country will continue to have heavy rain and severe thunderstorms throughout the day and night most likely. Large hail and even tornadoes are also expected to make an appearance in some places. In Pensacola on Tuesday, more than 5 inches of rain fell from 9pm-10pm. This surpassed the entire total rainfall from Hurricane Ivan in the 60 minute time period.

Whales: They're Everywhere
BREAKING NEWS: Somehow, whales made their way to the Great Lakes within the past week. Surprisingly, they are surviving and seems that they are adapting very well to the fresh water. Killer whales, grey whale, and humpbacks have all been sighted. This summer, boaters will need to be more cautious when navigating through the waters, because we have new company to share the water with. Veronica Corningstone covered the story on NEWS NOW saying, "It seems as though we have some new water friends in the Great Lakes. Experts have said they think dolphins and sharks will probably make their way here soon too, and if that's the case, wildlife experts are brainstorming saftey ideas. If sharks make it to the Great Lakes, it will be a big danger." It seems that we actually do need to worry about swimming in deep waters now.

NY Man Sentenced in Sex Cases
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/02/19/coach-sentenced-sex-assault-chinese-supplements/5602101/
Richard Dinizo who was a former youth basketball coach was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Tuesday. He tricked three girls into performing sex acts, and blamed his behavior on the Chinese nutritional supplements he was taking. "Whatever you used to be prior to this day you are no longer. Now you are just a sex offender," said Judge Cacace. The three girls were not players of his. Two were seven, and one was ten. "Officials said he convinced the girls they were playing a "tasting game" at his home, having them wear a mask that covered their eyes and prevented them from being aware of the sex acts."
He still has a child pornography case pending, and his wife and daughter no longer talk to him. The prosecutors said that Dinizo's actions went "way beyond the bounds" of the "normal" sexual offender. They also said his explanations were "grossly inadequate."

Meth Lab in Door County
On around 1:10 pm the Sturgeon Bay Police Department received a call from the housekeepers of Best Western after they found suspicious things in a room including equipment, drug paraphernalia, and chemicals. A 33 year old Green Bay man was arrested because he was suspected of making meth. After spending a minute in the room, the officers knew that they were dealing with a small "mobile" meth lab. The Door- Kewaunee Drug Task Force was called, and the north wing of the motel was evacuated for the police and investigations to take over. “Those agents are trained in the collection and removal and taking down of meth labs,” Brinkman said. “So they did that and they collected what they needed to collect and also notified a hazardous materials disposal team from Chicago.” This was the first meth lab that Brinkman had seen in 26 years. The suspect was also arrested in 1999 and 2002 because of other drug possessions.

Hillary Clinton Messes Up... Again
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2014/02/02/hillary-clinton-super-bowl-twitter/5171833/
During the Super Bowl, Hillary Clinton tweeted at FOX saying, "It's so much more to watch FOX when it's someone else being blitzed & sacked! #SuperBowl" It seemed like Clinton was bashing the network because of their comments about the former secretary of state. After she tweeted that, Hillary Clinton's press secretary Nick Merrill told everyone that it was obviously a joke, and said, "It was good natured, light-hearted, self- deprecating."

Weatherman Knees Guy
As
Jim Cantore, a weatherman from The Weather Channel, was reporting about the
storm in South Carolina, he kneed a man. The younger guy was trying to get into
the camera's view, and ran up to him yelling, only showing his face for a
second. As Jim saw him approaching, he kneed him in the lower stomach area,
only hesitating reporting for a second. While doing that, he managed to stay on
his feet. After the guy ran away, Jim continued to keep reporting about the
storm.

Obama: Pot No Worse Than Alcohol
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2014/01/19/obama-marijuana-not-so-bad/4649883/
"As has been well documented, I smoked pot as a kid, and I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from the cigarettes that I smoked as a young person up through a big chunk of my adult life,'' he said in a magazine interview. "I don't think it is more dangerous than alcohol."
President Obama also says that pot is less dangerous in some ways than alcohol. President Obama thinks that the legalization of marijuana in Colorado and Washington are important experiments, "He said legalizations of marijuana in Colorado and Washington are important experiments "because it's important for society not to have a situation in which a large portion of people have at one time or another broken the law and only a select few get punished.'"

New Mexico School Shooting
On Tuesday morning at Berrendo Middle School in Rosewell, New Mexico a twelve year old boy shot two of his classmates. A girl was shot in the arm, and a boy who was thought to be the target of the shooter, was shot in the face twice and is in critical condition. Around 8 am when all of the students were gathered in the gym, he opened fire. A teacher quickly went up to the boy and asked him to put down the gun. When he did, he was taken into custody. "Officials at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, say an 11-year-old boy was flown there in critical condition and a 13-year-old girl was en route in serious condition." One staff member had minor injuries, but refused medical help because he wanted to stay and help.

Minnesota Fire
On January 1, around 8 in the morning, a Minnesota apartment building burned down injuring multiple people. The three story building also had a grocery story on the first floor. The fire was so severe that the firefighters had to leave the building only minutes after arriving. They were also worried about the stability of the building and the safety of the firefighters. The fire department said it wasn't possible to determine if everyone was accounted for or not. The flames and endless smoke engulfed the building only to turn into icicles after the firefighters hosed it all down on the aerial ladders. Thirteen people were rushed to the hospital, and later a fourteenth person joined them. At least six of them were in critical condition. Some people jumped from the building, and some of the injured people were already on the street when first responders arrived at the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
